Our Philosophy & Architecture

Why we built Oventory

Most people keep their financial investments in dedicated apps, but treat their physical assets like an afterthought. We built Oventory to provide a quiet, capable inventory for everything physical you own.

The Origin Story

Like many enthusiasts who build PCs, collect camera lenses, or invest in quality home office equipment, we found our purchase receipts scattered across multiple email accounts, PDF folders, and physical drawers.

When a graphics card failed two weeks past its warranty or an insurance claim required proof of purchase with serial numbers, the spreadsheet we made three years prior was hopelessly out of date.

Existing software was either bloated enterprise asset management (ITAM) tools designed for 5,000-person corporations with monthly seat pricing, or simplistic note-taking templates that couldn't calculate depreciation, handle location trees, or warn about expiring warranties.

Oventory was built to fill that gap: a lightweight, fast asset inventory that does one job exceptionally well.

Core Principles

The guidelines that shape every feature and design decision in Oventory.

Privacy & Ownership

Your financial records and purchase details belong solely to you. No behavioral tracking, no third-party data broker monetization, and full export capabilities at any moment.

Under 2-Minute Entry

High-friction inventory tools get abandoned. Oventory keeps form fields intuitive and optional so you can register gear in seconds.

Proactive Protection

Never miss an RMA or warranty claim window again. Proactive alerts flag expiring hardware before it is too late.

Calm Utility

Clean visual hierarchy, instant search, and zero artificial bloat. The app stays quiet until you need it.

The Tech Stack

Oventory is engineered with modern, production-grade open web technologies:

TanStack Start
Fullstack React Framework
React 19
React Compiler enabled
Turso / libSQL
Edge SQLite database
Prisma ORM
Type-safe database layer
Better Auth
Secure session & OAuth auth
Tailwind CSS v4
Modern CSS tokens

Roadmap Highlights

We are actively building new features. Here is what is coming next:

Receipt OCR Extraction: Upload an invoice or receipt image and automatically extract vendor, purchase date, total amount, and items.
Inbound Email Forwarding: Forward electronic order confirmation emails directly to your Oventory inbox to populate draft assets.
Insurance Claim One-Click PDF Export: Generate a formatted PDF summary with serial numbers, valuation, and proof-of-purchase photos for insurance adjusters.
PWA Offline Mode & Quick Phone Camera Scan: Install Oventory on your home screen for rapid photo capture and offline barcode lookups.
